Rueda is an extremely fun, dynamic form of salsa danced among two or
more couples in a circle. To learn more about la rueda, visit
La Rueda
page to learn all about it.
Classes for la rueda are taught at levels I, II, and III. Level I is
the beginner's level, Level II is the intermediate level and Level III
is the advanced level.
Level I Rueda
Level I rueda starts with a basic introduction to the structure of
rueda dancing. The instructor begins by walking the students through
the basic rules of la rueda including the concept of the circle and
the dancers' orientation towards the center, the role of the caller, how
moves are called, the concept of the caller's hand signs, and then
teaching the students how to perform basic salsa dance moves in a rueda.
Rueda dance moves are broken down into parts and taught without music.
Once the students feel comfortable with the steps they are practiced
with music. Students must understand the basics of salsa as well as
some basic dance moves before attempting to take this class.
Level II Rueda
Level II rueda expands on the concepts learned in Level I. The
instructor teaches how to perform the intermediate dance moves in
a rueda. In addition, "rueda only" dance moves are taught and
practiced first without music then with music. The basics of rueda
in Level I must be learned before taking this class.
Level III Rueda
Level III rueda is the most challenging. The jump from Level II to
Level III is undefined. It largely depends on the dancer's skills, ability
and his/her ambition. Level III dance moves are taught and performed
in Rueda Level III. The "rueda only" moves taught in Level III are
also more advanced.
